Bendel's - Holiday Gift List

If you didn't know what Henri Bendel's was before 2007, you quickly were made aware thanks to a little show called Gossip Girl.  It's one of the places Serena Van Der Woodson frequented more often than I do the grocery store (and that's A LOT)

Growing up and visiting New York, Bendel's was one of the places I was always enamored by.  Just the outside facade of the flagship store is enough to make you want to take a peek inside.  Once you are in, it is a wonderland for girls and women alike.  Bags, Jewelry, Cosmetics, Gifts, Perfumes and more fill these walls and invite visitors to enjoy a very pleasant shopping experience.  Not only have I found countless things for myself (duh), but there are so many great options for gifts that it's the perfect go-to for anyone on your list.

There aren't too many shopping days left, so I've made it a bit easier and found some great last minute gift options you can get online or in the store.  There is something for just about every girl on your list!  I mean how easy is that? One stop and you are done!

NY See | The Nutcracker

Christmas is just a little over a week away and there are so many things I want to take in before I head South for a bit.  Every year I always make a list of things I want to do this Holiday Season.  And I always keep track of the things I do, in case friends or family come to visit and they want fun, festive ideas of things to see while they are here.

The Nutcracker is most synonymous with Christmas.  When you think about this magical story, you automatically think about the Christmas or Holiday season.  I have seen the Nutcracker Ballet a few times growing up, but I must say that seeing it performed by the New York City Ballet, in Lincoln Center, is probably the best you are going to get.  I am a thirty-three year old woman, and I still get filled with excitement and joy seeing it performed on stage.

If you are in New York over the next few weeks, do yourself a favor and go see the Nutcracker.  The last performance will be Saturday, January 2nd.

Work / Life Balance

Happy Happy Monday! Here we are mid-December and only 10 days left until Christmas. How fast has this year gone by? I am ready for some R&R with my family and some time away from this busy city for a bit.

I have felt compelled to write this post for a while and have honestly not had the chance to until now.  As most of you know, blogging is not my full time job (as much as I wish it were most days) But it is something I truly enjoy doing and hope to continue for years to come.  I started a new job about 6 months ago and although it has been a great experience so far and probably the most challenging and exciting job I have had to date, it takes up more of my time than I am used to a job doing.  This was a TOTAL career change, so  I am spending more of my time learning the business and getting to know the industry a bit better.  And to be quite honest, when I get home, the last thing I feel like doing or have any mental capacity to do, is blog.  And it's not that I don't want to, it's that I don't want to just throw a post up for the sake of putting something on here.  I have always had the mentality from day one, that I was going to post when I felt inspired to do so.  And if that meant every other day or two, maybe three times a week, so be it.  But lately I have felt guilty and stressed about the neglect I have been giving SBF and my readers.  I have wanted to post things and be engaging, but it's just not panned out.  If you are a blogger, I am sure you know what I am going through, right? I struggle with finding time to do everything and make everything I do perfect, well thought out and executed.  I am going a million miles a minute and still feel like I'm at half capacity and could do better or more.  I am sure a lot of that has to do with this city and the fact that everyone is moving at this pace most of the time.  But a lot of it, sadly, is my personality or mentality.  I'm a first born, A-type, like things just so, type of gal.  Over the years, some of those things have toned down a bit, but I am who I am, and this is it!

I felt this post deserving in that I wanted to give you all a bit of insight as to why sometimes I'm more present that others.  It's not that I don't want to be here or give you all something to read, it's just that I am trying to find that ever elusive, work/life balance and make every facet of my personality (or personalities, being a Gemini) content and happy.  I haven't dropped off the face of the earth, nor do I plan to, but maybe for a while, or at least until I get things a little more settled with the job, I might be posting less and not as engaged on here as usual or as much as I would like.  But I hope you will still keep coming back and reading what I am able to post.  I am working on finding that balance and hoping with the coming weeks/New Year, I will be able to manage both work and personal a bit better.  With all new jobs or life experiences, it takes a bit of time to get your footing and rhythm.  I think I have finally gotten a taste of what this new career is going to entail and now I'm just trying to work my blog into the mix as well.  It is what keeps me sane after all!

So please bear with me and don't forget to some back often! I am more frequent with posts on instagram, so if you don't follow me there, you totally should!

Have a wonderful start to the week! xoxo

NY See | Macy's Balloons and Thanksgiving Day Parade

Good Morning!  Can you believe Thanksgiving is a little over a week away? I am so looking forward to heading home and spending some time with my family.  Nothing beats home cooked meals and and little R&R with my favorite people!

A few years ago my parents came to New York and spent Thanksgiving here.  Thanksgiving dinner at the Little Owl, seeing a broadway musical and doing a little holiday shopping were a few among many things we tried to squeeze into a long weekend.  We also went to see the parade balloons being blown up and were able to watch some of the Thanksgiving Day parade from Central Park South.  Even though we weren't at home and totally changed up our usual tradition, it was one Thanksgiving I will always remember.

If you are spending Thanksgiving in or around NYC, you can check out the balloons yourself and stake out a place to watch some of the parade as well!  From 3-10pm on Wednesday, head up to Columbus Avenue and West 77th street and get an up close and personal look at some of the balloons that will be floating high above the streets Thursday morning.  They are held down with nets and sandbags, but you can still get a good look at just how big these guys are and how much it takes to keep them inflated for the whole parade.  This is a great idea if you have little ones with you.  And once you are done, there are several great restaurants nearby to grab dinner. Little note: be prepared for the possibility of a line and there will be crowds, so bring your patience and a snack! (two things I did not happen to bring with me when we went) Although my dad and I still give my mom grief for 'dragging' us up there, it was really fun to see and I am glad we went.  I can't wait for the Niece and Nephew to visit and see them as well! They will love it!

If you want to get an up close and front row view of the parade, I would suggest getting to a spot on the parade route earrrrllllyyy.  The parade starts at 9am ET,  so plan on being there at least three hours early to claim your spot and plan to stay until you are ready to go.  Don't forget lots of layers and a few snacks and things to keep you occupied while you are waiting for the parade to start.  The year my parents were here, we had breakfast at SaraBeth's, and walked out the door and were lucky enough to find a place to stand and see most of the parade as they came down central park south and turned onto 6th ave.  Even if you don't stay long or have the best view, it's still something you should definitely mark off your 'bucket list.'

Below are a few pictures from our Thanksgiving in NYC a few years ago.

Scarf-ing around

We have had our first taste of Winter here in NYC over the past few weeks.  With temperatures in the 40's and 50's, I am suddenly reminded of the brutal Winter we experienced last year.  And while I do love the colder temperatures, I am not sure I am quite ready for the frigid ones.  It's no surprise that I love accessories.  I mean, they do make an outfit, after all.  It wasn't until I moved to my new apartment a few months ago and was unpacking that I realized there is one accessory I have come to love a lot more than others; The Scarf.

I think, before I culled my collection, I had about 40!  Yes, 4-0!  From light weight, to a thick cowl neck, from bright prints to solid neutrals; my collection was vast.  And even though I was forced to get rid of some, I have still added a few more to the group.  Below are some of my favorites.  From everyday to the much needed thick winter scarf, these are great options to add to your wardrobe this season.

NY See | Winter Village at Bryant Park

It's safe to say that I love Christmas more than any holiday, my birthday included.  There is just something about this time of year that makes even a Monday enjoyable!  Living in New York only intensifies my adoration for the Holiday Season.  There are so many things for you to see and do during November and December that it's just about impossible to fit them all in!  But every year I try to take advantage of all the culture and holiday events I can.  Over the next few weeks the NY See posts will be all the fun things to do in New York over the holidays.  If you are here visiting, or just looking for something to do next weekend, these are great options and are sure to get you in the Holiday Spirit!

The first must see is the Winter Village at Bryant Park.  If any of you have been to Bryant Park, you know its usually filled with summer movies on the lawn, yoga classes, and people just enjoying a bit of nature in the concrete jungle.  From mid October until January, it's transformed into a winter wonderland complete with an ice skating rink , little holiday shops and few seasonal places to take a break to eat or drink.  The ice skating rink is open until March, but the shops close in early January.  With over 125 boutique-like shops, you are bound to find a few things for those loved ones on your list this year.  They have everything from bath products, quirky bags, local food/cuisine, to dainty jewelry.  There will be something for everyone to enjoy here.

So grab a friend and head out to Bryant Park this weekend!

Mixing Prints

When planning outfits (yes, I plan ahead and lay out my clothes the night before), I am always trying to add a little bit of fun and unexpectedness to my look.  Whether it be for work or play, I like to shake things up from time to time.  This outfit was one I actually put together by mistake.  I was changing into something for a happy hour event and ended up really liking this combo, so I went with it! I kept accessories to a minimum and headed our for some drinks with friends.

4 Years

Today marks the 4th anniversary of Saved by Fashion.  It is so crazy to think of all that's happened since this little 'outlet' began.  If you had asked me 5 years ago if this is where I would be right now, I would have said you were crazy!  And to think this little gal has been with me through some of the most significant changes in my life.  From personal to professional, she has been with me through it all.  I am so happy with and grateful for where I am at in my life right now and am really excited to see what the next year(s) bring.  And I hope to still have this place for us to come and obsess over fashion.  Thank you for your support and continually coming back to SBF. XOXO

Gemvara - New Fall Collections

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to have lunch with the fabulous ladies at Gemvara.  You all have seen some previous posts about how much I just adore these ladies and this brand.  Being able to customize fine jewelry is a girls dream come true! This fall they have launched two new collections and they are just as amazing as what we've come to expect from Gemvara.  The first collection, available now is the Linear Collection.  The thought behind this gorgeous collection was;

"Clean lines and the minimalist aesthetic of the Linear Collection offers a fresh perspective in fine jewelry," says Gemvara Design Director Julie Lamb. "All of the pieces are so casual and lightweight that they easily mix in with your current favorites and are just begging to be stacked and multiplied. Think of these pieces as a reinvention of your basic diamond stud and solitaire pendant, the go to favorites that complete your look, the pieces you never take off."

I absolutely adore this collection.  It is so soft and dainty and can be worn as everyday pieces and you can mix into what you already own.  They are great layering pieces as well.  A few of my favorite pieces are below.

The second collection they are launching is the D'Orsay Collection.  It's got a new stone style that you will just adore!

"It began with the stone, as it so often does for me," said Gemvara Design Director Julie Lamb. "I went to Tucson this year looking for a stone cut that Gemvara could call our Signature. I was inspired by the buff top cut which is classic although not widely known. It is the best of both worlds with its smooth modern cabochon top and multifaceted pavilion, radiating a subtle light from within. We developed this setting style to best exhibit the buff tops. I wanted the overall artistry to be architectural with curves, and to be strong yet feminine."

I am a huge fan of cocktail rings and fun bright jewelry and this collection is both of those.  But can also be classic and elegant.  That's the great thing about Gemvara! You can design exactly what you want and for whatever occasion you need something for.  I fell in love with just about every piece of this collection.  But their signature round pave ring with the Rhodolite Garnet was my absolute favorite.  Below are a few pictures of the pieces I tried on and got to see.

With the holidays just around the corner, either of these collections would be great gift ideas for just about every lady on your list.  What girl doesn't want jewelry? And what girl wouldn't love a customized piece?
