Follow Friday {8.29.14}

Well Lovelies, today is the day! MOVING DAY!  I cannot tell you how excited I am to move to a bigger place and live in a different neighborhood, but at the same time, it's a little bittersweet.  I have lived in this building since I moved to NYC three years ago. I have grown to love my super and doorman and have really felt at home there.

In keeping with the home theme, I have a few of my favorite decor sights to take a look at this week.  I have been looking non stop at these for ideas and options for the new place.

I have done a few posts about this company before, but I just couldn't pass up the chance for you to get to know them again!  They have everything you could possibly want to decorate your apartment.  I, for one, and a huge fan of their rugs and have several on my wish list for the new place.  If you are looking for decor items, Lulu & Georgia has so many to choose from.

I can not get enough of Furbish Studio's Instagram!  They always have the greatest decor ideas and super cute home decor.  I am not afraid of color and mixing patters, and they have great items they showcase a lot of styling and pairing options!  If you are a bit scared of design like I am, it's a great site for inspiration and ideas.  They are located in Raleigh, NC but have a website that carries most of the items you see on their accounts.

I am sure you are familiar with One King Lane, but have you stumbled across their Instagram account? If not, well then you should!  Not only do they feature items that have on sale that day, they also show you how to decorate, pair or design a space with those featured items.  All their furniture is really great quality, so don't let the sticker price (even on sale) scare you off.  It's worth the money!

Do y'all remember when Domino Mag was first published years ago? It was one of my favorite magazines and I was so upset when they decided to cancel it.  So you can imagine my surprise and excitement when they brought it back AND with it, a fabulous website.  You can shop, get decor ideas and read about other readers and their decorating endeavors.  It's a refreshing occurrence when I see that daily email pop up!

Red was the color of the night and it only intensified my growing obsession for adding more rouge to my wardrobe.  Below were my favorites from the night.

NY See | US Open

If you are going to be in NYC over the next 10 days, I would highly suggest getting over to Arthur Ashe Stadium and taking in a game or two of the US Open.  Tickets are still available, but most are in the upper deck.  Still, it you want to add and mark something off your bucket list, going to a game at the US Open is a good one to do.  And while you are out there, walk around Corona Park . There are several attractions to enjoy while waiting for the game to begin.  To name a few, it was the site of the 1964 World's Fair's and has few parks to enjoy as well.  And if you are in the mood to make it an all out sports day, head across the street to Citi Field to see a Met's game.

You can find information here, and purchase tickets here.  So jump on that 7 train and head out to Queens and enjoy an afternoon or evening with some of the greatest tennis players around!

Follow Friday {8.22.14}

Happy Friday, Lovelies! As we speak I am getting ready to head out to Napa for the weekend to catch up with a fabulous friend and drink wine until our heart's (or liver's) content!  If you don't already, be sure to follow me on instagram for all the winery shenanigans we get ourselves into. Also look for a few posts next week on my weekend in California!

Ok, to the real reason you stopped by! My faves for this week! There isn't a theme this week, just a few peeps I adore and want you all to as well! Have fun getting to know these accounts and have a fabulous weekend! xo

The name alone should be a given. Their instagram account gives me major vacation envy several times a day.  Their account if complies of pictures people have taken from all over the globe and they are all downright gorgeous.  It's also a great way to get ideas for any upcoming trips or vacations.

Design inspiration is at the top of my go to list lately and I stumbled across The Pink Pagoda Blue and White pinterest board and have been obsessing over it ever since. It.Is.Just.Gorgeous. If you are looking for some decor inspo, start here!

I am sure everyone has seen this account, the book, or at least heard about this.  If  not, let me introduce you - this account was started by a guy four years ago who had a goal to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers and plot the photos on a map.  Over the years, he has added quotes and from the people he photographs and its turned into a blog and a best selling book.  Not all the pictures and stories are rainbows and sunshine, which is why I think it's so popular.  It shows real life and the accomplishments and struggles of people living right here in NYC.  He is currently traveling August - September and his pictures have been really telling and eye opening thus far.

Weekend Getaway | Travel Style

Oh Happy Day! Not only is it Thursday (1 day closer to the weekend), but I am heading to San Francisco today for a long weekend with a fabulous friend! I cannot wait to spend time catching up, drinking wine, and enjoying one last trip before the craziness of fall comes around.

So it's no surprise that this weeks Weekend Style is all about travel.  I refuse to check a bag unless I am going to be gone for more than a week.  Since moving to NYC, I travel a lot more frequently than I used to, which has forced me to really be thoughtful about what I pack.  Gone are the days of just throwing everything in suitcase and planning outfits when I get there.  I am all about bring things that are versatile.  Whether that be day to night, changing temperatures, or wearing some things more that once (yes, it is OK to wear something two days in a row)

I have a huge crush on Madewell and have actually for a while now.  They just have so many great, good quality pieces.  Below are a few outfits I have been eyeing for some time.  Every single piece is from Madewell, and even better, they allow you wear items more than once, while still looking fabulous!

Also, my most favorite booties in the whole wide world are from Madewell. I wore them so much last year I had to order the black just so I could give the others a rest! They have withstood the hard and nasty streets of NYC, so you know they are the real deal! Do yourself and your wardrobe a favor and get them!  In both colors!
Weekend Wear | Madewell
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 67 / 8 / 9 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13

Outfit 1
This green silk dress is perfect for a relaxing day brunching, taking in the sights or whatever your day has in store.  It isn't heavy or fussy which is great when traveling.  I would add the jean vest over for a more casual look and if you wanted to wear this into the evening, take that off and just add a dressier shoe and small clutch.  If it's going to be a little cooler, you could put the white button down from outfit two under the dress and belt it at the waist for a more tailored look.

Outfit 2
I don't know what it is, but I am loving that wide leg pants are coming back for Fall.  I have always been a lover of the wide leg option.  And I just adore this outfit.  It's very boho and the fabrics are super lightweight so it's perfect for traveling and exploring.  You can also add the jean jacket over the button down to add another dimension to your look.  It also tapers in the shirt and your top half a little so if you are worried you look too baggy, this is a quick fix.

All the accessories will go with both outfits and if you wanted to add flat booties or sandal instead of the heel, those are great options too! Once you start to think about a piece's versatility, this will become easier.  Most of my purchases are bought with this mindset - how many different ways and places can I wear this one piece?  If I cannot think of at least three, then I usually pass.

p.s - I have the tote above and it is the perfect 'everyday' ,'any occasion' bag.  Throw whatever you need in it and go.  I have been really hard on it and its still standing and in great shape! Trust!

NY See | Playbill

I have been coming to New York since I was in the 3rd grade (so a looooong time), and by far my most favorite and vivid memories are the ones with my family going to the great white way and taking in a new Broadway show.  The first play I ever saw was Cats and from that point on, I feel madly in love with the theatre.  Over the years I have seen more musicals than I can count, and some I have seen more than a handful (I'm looking at you Wicked) of times.  I have kept just about every playbill from the shows I have seen and have started matting them in frames to hang on my walls.  I often get asked which ones were my favorites or which I would recommend you just have to see if you were coming to the city for a short time.  Gosh!, that seems to be a tougher answer than I thought!  Though shows come and go down on Broadway, there are those classics or popular ones that if they do come back or travel to a city near you, you MUST go see!  Below are my top 5 shows of all time (this was tough, y'all), and a few that are still going on that I would recommend going to see if you are here or have the opportunity.

Boot up

Good Morning! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.  I spent time packing up my apartment, catching up with friends and doing a little bit of pre-fall shopping.  Last season I bought a few pairs of short, low heeled booties and was smitten from the start.  They are the PERFECT transitional shoe option and they are so versatile.  You can pair them with anything and they just complete your look.  I love wearing them with dresses and shorts now, and with jeans and tights in the fall.

I also love a good price point, and Sole Society hits both style and price out of the park.  Below are some of my favorites on their site right now.  Don't wait too long or they will be gone!

Follow Friday {8.15.14}

It is a gorgeous in NYC today and that just makes this day all the more fabulous!  It's amazing what a little sun and Vitamin D can do for your mood.  With only a few more 'Summer Fridays' left, I have been taking advantage and appreciating all the great weather we have been having! Today I'm heading to the new apartment to finalize the move and get my keys (YEAH), and then to pick up more boxes to continue the dreaded task of packing up my apartment. (insert trip to wine store here)

But before I head out, I couldn't skip out on my follows for this week!  I met these three ladies through blogging (it's amazing what this little outlet has afforded me!) and have become friends with outside of the social media world.  I adore each one of them as they are all just fabulous!  So, enjoy some girl power on this very happy and gorgeous Friday!  Have a great weekend! xo

Caviar Taste Tuna Fish Wallet
I met Lindsey four months after I moved here at an IFB Conference.  We were both standing in line outside waiting to get in and hit it off from the very beginning.  She has become one of my dear friends here in NYC, and best of all, we will be neighbors soon!  She also just had the most beautiful baby boy who I cannot wait to have endless date nights with! If you can't tell from the title of her site, CTTW is a great place to find affordable options for those high priced must have items each season.  We have all been there - that fabulous pair of shoes or that new 'it' bag is just screaming our name, but our wallet is singing a different tune.  Lindsey does an amazing job on finding those similar items at a fraction of the price. Her outfit posts will give you major closet envy, but are great inspiration for those days when you just can't figure out what to wear.

Tiffany Pinero Style
Tiffany is one of those girls who has it all together 100% of the time.  Her outfits are always fabulous, her hair and makeup are gorgeous, she has the best gift ideas, and she can cook with the best of them! There isn't anything this woman cannot do! I met Tiffany on twitter before I moved here (we both contributed to the same blog a few years back) We ran into each other at a blogger conference during fashion week and have kept in touch ever since. She is such a rock-star that she has taken her passion of styling and personal shopping and turned it into her full time job! From friends, to longtime clients, to boutiques, to some popular brands, Tiffany has helped many women (and men) redefine their style and wardrobe.  Her posts are always so helpful and informative.  And she is the sweetest person EVER!

Lauren-Nelson.com
Lauren is one of those girls who you just connect with instantly.  Not only is she genuine, and sweet, she's really funny too!  Everything you want in a girlfriend.  She was one of the girls behind the super successful blog, Girls of Lincoln Park.  After moving to New York a few years ago she decided to branch out and create her own website.  If you love all things pretty, feminine and downright gorgeous - her website and instagram are a must! Not only does she 'get' fashion, she also has an eye for interiors as well.  It's been a great inspiration for me with ideas for my new space.

Weekend Wear

One more day until the weekend! I hate to wish life away, but I have come to cherish and appreciate my weekends these days.  Work is starting to ramp back up with summer on the downhill, so I look forward to a few days to rest and recharge.  Tomorrow and Saturday here in NYC are going to be gorgeous and I plan to take full advantage (in between packing up my apartment)

I am becoming more and more of a casual dresser and tend to stick with some good ole 'trusties' as of late. Nothing's better than throwing on your favorite pair of jeans, a comfy tee or tank and heading out to run errands or meet friends for brunch.  I have been living in this look just about all summer, so why stop now!? Below are a few of my favorite go-to look these days.

Wednesday Wish List

We are halfway through this week, WOO! Tonight I am heading over to Queens with a group of co-workers to watch the Mets play.  I know what some of you are thinking, how can I cheat on my Yankees.  Fear not, I am not changing my loyalty or allegiance, I am just going to enjoy a night of baseball with some great people.

Summer is quickly coming to an end and that has gotten me thin been eyeing this week.  I am still not totally changed over to an all black color palette.  Hoping to bring more color into my wardrobe for fall and winter.

NY See | Jeff Koons at The Whitney

If you watch the Today show, or have visited NYC recently, you may have noticed a certain sculpture installation that's half rocking horse, half dinosaur.  Covered in flowers, it has slowly begun to bloom and adds a nice touch to the plaza if you happen to be walking through it. This beautiful piece of art would be the work of none other than Jeff Koons.  If you aren't familiar with his work, now is as great a time as any to familiarize yourself!

Going on now until October 19th, you can see much more of Koons' creations at his exhibition at the Whitney Museum.  And let me tell you, it is one extensive and eclectic collection.  From balloon art to cartoons to animal sculptures, make an afternoon out of visiting this collection before it leaves New York!!

A little background on the artist: (from the Whitney Museum website)

Jeff Koons is widely regarded as one of the most important, influential, popular, and controversial artists of the postwar era. Throughout his career, he has pioneered new approaches to the readymade, tested the boundaries between advanced art and mass culture, challenged the limits of industrial fabrication, and transformed the relationship of artists to the cult of celebrity and the global market. Yet despite these achievements, Koons has never been the subject of a retrospective surveying the full scope of his career. Comprising almost 150 objects dating from 1978 to the present, this exhibition will be the most comprehensive ever devoted to the artist’s groundbreaking oeuvre. By reconstituting all of his most iconic works and significant series in a chronological narrative, the retrospective will allow visitors to understand Koons’s remarkably diverse output as a multifaceted whole.

This exhibition will be the artist’s first major museum presentation in New York, and the first to fill nearly the entirety of the Whitney’s Marcel Breuer building with a single artist’s work. It will also be the final exhibition to take place there before the Museum opens its new building in the Meatpacking District in 2015.

Lulu & Georgia

Monday, we meet again! Although I am not as sick of you as I have been in month's past.  I don't know if it's the wonderfully nice weather we seem to be having or the fact that my move is coming up really fast, but I don't loathe you or much these days, for that matter.

Since finding out I would be moving to a bigger space, I have been endlessly searching and looking for decor/design ideas like it's my job.  I have had to become more realistic Sarah and stay away from anything relating to fashion for the moment (insert sigh here), and focus my time and budget on more home related things.  I have realized that it's not been all that bad.  Trying to design and decorate a new place is actually really fun and exciting.  I have been in more furniture stores over the last two weeks than I care to count, but have finally decided on what 'look' I am going for and now the fun begins - buying! I cannot wait for it to all come together.

I stumbled across Lulu & Georgia a year or so ago and have been swooning over their site ever since.  I have made a 'wish list' on their site and it houses all the things I am hoping to purchase sooner rather than later.  They have great rugs, throw pillows, accessories and knick knacks that turn a space into a home or cozy nook you have been dying to create.  They have every look you could possibly be going for and at reasonable prices, which is great for those of us who have so much to purchase!

Below are a few of the things I have added to the wish list that I am hoping to add to my new apartment.  It also gives you a little idea of the plans I have for the space, design wise.

Brand Spotlight: Goodnight Macaroon

Being someone who chooses to invest my money in handbags, I am always on the lookout for clothing lines that are affordable, but don't look cheap.  I am all for the occasional shopping spree at Forever 21 (they do have great trendy options and sometimes great once season staples), but for the most part, I try to shop at places where I can get the most bang for my buck, so to speak.  I also want to make my purchase last more than one season, if I can help it.

I came across Goodnight Macaroon about a year ago through one of my girlfriends and have been swooning over their line ever since.  It seems as though over the past year they have blown up and become a go-to line for celebrities, bloggers, and every in between. Not only do they have great clothes that are on par with trends and what is happening now in fashion, the price point is ridiculous! Just ridiculous! I love being able to find pieces that are transitional in season as well as lifestyle.  Being able to wear a dress to work and then out to happy hour or dinner is what makes me purchase certain items again and again.  Goodnight Macaroon has so many great transitional pieces, not to mention cozy sweaters for fall/winter and fun dresses to keep you cool during these hot summer months.

Below are just a few things I picked up this week and can't wait to get them in my closet to style with what I already own.  With fall just around the corner (I am sure I am the only one happy about this), you can find some great pieces to wear now and layer into fall.

Hop to it!!

About Face

I will be the first to admit it - I have never been one to 'invest' or spend much money or thought on my beauty regimen.  I was always a neutrogena girl and the less steps the better (mostly out of laziness)  I started noticing a change in my face after I moved to New York.  Not sure if it was the city, or just a coincidence that I moved here at the beginning of my thirties when they say 'things' start to change for women.  The most prevalent change I noticed were these 'dark spots' on my cheeks.  At first I though it was just a suntan mark from my overly large sunglasses, but after going to the dermatologist, I quickly found out it was melasma - or hypermigmentation caused from the sun, genetics, and hormonal changes (i.e, birth control).  I was told that unless I got off my birth control and stayed out of the sun (or wore bright white zinc on my face every day - heck no!), it would never really go away.  I could go for microdermabrasion therapy ($250/session) and would need to go about once a month for things to really work.

Seeing as how I don't have $500 a month to throw on facial treatments, not to mention the creams and cleansers he recommended, I left the office thinking oh well, I will just have to deal with my spotted face.

About that time, my sister had just signed up to be a Rodan + Fields consultant and told me I really needed to try some of their products.  If you aren't familiar with Rodan & Fields, they are the two dermatologists behind Proactiv and Proactiv+.  While Proactiv is more for acne, their Rodan + Fields line is for aging skin.

Seeing as I am a simple beauty girl, I sort of just listened and went on about my business, while still complaining and whining about my problem and how was I going to fix it?  The next week I received a package from her with a trial set of their Reverse products to try, and I've been hooked ever since! Not only have I ordered the products, I have also gotten the MACRO Exfoliator (it's an at home microderabrasion treatment) and the Micro-exfoliating roller (helps get rid of wrinkles).

I have been using these products for over a year now and I have noticed a HUGE difference in my face.  Even though this line is more expensive than my old drugstore products (but comparable, albeit more affordable, to other high end skincare lines), to me it's been worth it to be able to walk out of my apartment and not have to wear much, if any, makeup and still feel confident that no one is starring and these huge dark spots.  I still have a hint of the melasma, but no one seems to notice or see it but me.  It has definitely made me less embarrassed about my face and how I look.

If you are experiencing similar problems or feel like you want to just start as a prevention, I strongly suggest trying out Rodan + Fields.  Coming from a non-believer, this stuff is magic!!!

Their main regimens fall into 4 categories:

1. REDEFINE – wrinkles, fine lines, enlarged pores
2. REVERSE – sun damage, brown spots, dullness
3. SOOTHE – sensitivity, redness, irritation (also, great for babies/kids who have eczema)
4. UNBLEMISH – mature acne (5 or more breakouts a month), post acne marks, clogged pores

I use the Reverse and the Redefine products on a daily basis (I use one regimen in the morning and the other at night)

If you want more information or are ready to sign up as a preferred customer, here is the link or you can contact Rachel here.  Once you do sign up, you will receive a free mini facial and will be entered into a drawing to win a free lip scrub!

To become a Preferred Customer, there is one time fee of $19.95, and immediately you will receive 10% off all products and free shipping every month.  That 10% and free shipping savings really adds up!

I am not one to promote or blab on and about products too often.  It's only when I find something I just can't live without or stop talking about.  So you know these work if I am dedicating a whole post to them!

If I were on a deserted island, you can bet my Rodan + Fields products would be one of the things I would most definitely pack!

{New Series} NY See

Well Lovelies, as you may have seen from my Friday post, my computer is up and running again (I am sure you all were really worried) and it seems just in time!! I have been working on my blog calendar over the past few days and some exciting posts, new weekly series, and a few other things are coming up on SBF soon. Fashion Week is a month away (how is that possible!?), so we are ramping up with more posts about style, trends, who to watch, and what to do if you are going to be in the city.

Today marks a new series on Saved by Fashion; NY See.  I always get questions about where to stay, shop, eat, and explore when people are visiting NYC.  My list on my phone is growing my the week as I try out new places so often.  So I decided to dedicate a place on the blog where you can go to and find my recommendations all in one place! Plus it's also helpful for me if I'm having one of those moments when I cannot remember a place and need to jog my memory.

This weeks choice is none other than Uva - my favorite little Italian spot on the Upper East Side.

You may have heard me mention this place before, and if so I'm sorry to repeat.  But once you find 'that' place, you just can't stop blabbing about it.  I was first introduced to Uva a few months after moving here.  The guy I was dating at the time suggested it as a great dinner spot for when my mother was visiting.  I live on the east side and think the Upper East Side is just so charming, so that was the place I chose from his list, and it's been one of my 'regular' places ever since.

Where is it located:
2nd avenue between 77th and 78th streets.

What is the atmosphere like:
Depending on the day and time, it can be crowded and noisy in the front room as most locals come to the bar after work.  There is a backyard patio open year round and a private wine cellar as well.  The patio is a bit more intimate and quiet.  With exposed brick,  and a fireplace, you sometimes forget you are smack dab in one of the busiest cities in the country.
I have only been here for dinner, but the do have lunch and a weekend brunch.  Everything I have ordered or people I have brought with me have ordered has been wonderful.  No complaints!

Being an italian restaurant, you can bet their wines are going to be good.  They have an extensive wine list that is sure to satisfy everyone in your group.
If I am there before 7pm (not often), I typically do the Wine flights - it's the best way to try out different wines. They do have a full bar, so you can get your favorite cocktail if you prefer.

My favorites:
Sheeps Rocotta Cheese and Black Truffle Honey Bruschette
The Cheese Plate - you can choose your cheeses and can order up to 5 different types
Pear and Gorgonzola Salad
Ricotta Gnocchi

Follow Friday - {8/1/14} - Dog Edition

Would you look at that!? It's August! HOW CAN THIS BE? I don't even want to say it as I know it will make some of you ill, but summer is almost over! (booo)

Today marks a special day in our house.  My baby boy turns 8 today.  Some of you may not know, but I have a sweetheart named Benny who came into my life about 6 year ago.  My aunt rescued him from her neighbors who were just going to leave him in an empty house until they could figure out what to do with him. (makes me sick to think people can be so cruel) She called and asked if we wanted a sweet, almost two year old Yorkie and I immediately said yes! My wonderful mother met her halfway between Hot Springs and Elizabethtown to get him, and the rest is history.

When I moved to New York, I didn't bring him with me because we thought it would be best to get settled and then bring him here.  But as time went on, I realized that he has a pretty good life at Camp Kleinhenz and would miss his two best buddies, Isabella and Mac, too much.  I am gone every day for a minimum of 12 hours and that is a long time for a dog to be alone. I know I could get a dog walker or someone to check on him, but the stress of a totally different environment and lifestyle change for a dog is a lot harder than some people realize (yes, I am one of those people who will feel bad for a dog before a person, sorry)

In honor of my little guy, I thought I would do a Follow Friday of some of the animal related sites, instas, and twitter accounts I follow.  If you are looking to give back or fulfill your daily/weekly dose of dog, I HIGHLY encourage you to volunteer and help out local shelters, vet clinics, and rescue organizations.  And if you are looking to add a dog to your family, please seriously consider rescuing one.  All of our dogs are rescues and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you want some names of places here in NY or in Arkansas or Kentucky where you can volunteer or help, please let me know!

Dogs of Instagram
For your daily dose of all things dog, this is one of my favorites.  From puppies to adults, from Chihuahua's to Dobermans - they have you covered!

Mayors Alliance for NYC's Animals
For anyone living in NYC and wanting to get involved with volunteering, fostering, or helping find homes for the thousands of animals that roam the streets every day, this is THE website.  It has so much information and they really need help!

@ASPCA
the ASPCA is a nation wide organization fighting animal cruelty.  This organization is a great starting point if you are interested in getting more involved with helping animals.  They always have pictures of rescues and their story and how you can help out in your own community.

Happy Friday! xo
